EC RAISES CEILINGS FOR SMALL AMOUNTS OF STATE AID

On 13 December, the European Commission adopted a Regulation amending the general rules for small amounts of aid (de minimis Regulation) which exempt small aid amounts from EU State aid control since they are deemed to have no impact on competition and trade in the Single Market.

The Regulation increases the maximum amount of aid from €200,000 per company over a three-year period to €300,000, to take inflation into account compared to the current ceiling which was adopted in 2008. In addition, the new Regulation removes the restriction of aid to road freight transport companies, which was limited to half the amount set for other types of undertakings and excluding fleet renewal.

The Regulation will enter into force on 1st January 2024, and will be applicable until 31 December 2030.
