EC OPENS CALL FOR EVIDENCE ON SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT INVESTMENT PLAN

On 7 August, the European Commission opened a call for evidence on the future Sustainable Transport Investment Plan (STIP). The plan, expected for publication in Q3 2024, aims to scale and prioritise investments for decarbonising all EU transport modes, supporting the RefuelEU Aviation and FuelEU Maritime initiatives. STIP will focus on reducing risks for private investments in renewable and low-carbon fuels, enhancing the EU's strategic autonomy, and promoting technological leadership. Key measures include identifying investment gaps and industry needs, with roadmaps for each transport mode and short-term actions using existing EU funding and mobilising Member State contributions. The STIP will also explore new de-risking mechanisms like contracts-for-difference and double-sided auction, as well as promote international cooperation, notable in the framework of Global Gateway.

Stakeholders are invited to submit their feedback to the call for evidence until 4 September via this link. CLECAT will prepare a submission, emphasising the need to develop plans for the production, deployment and use of sustainable fuels in maritime and aviation.
