EC LAUNCHES MARITIME ALLIANCE TO STRENGTHEN EUROPEAN MANUFACTURING

The European Commission launched the EU Industrial Maritime Value Chains Alliance on 02 September, bringing together companies, public authorities and other stakeholders to support Europe’s maritime manufacturing industry.

The creation of the Alliance was announced in the EU Industrial Maritime Strategy presented in March 2026. It reflects the Commission’s ambition to strengthen Europe’s industrial and technological sovereignty, security and strategic autonomy. The initiative focuses particularly on increasing European capacity to build, repair, retrofit and recycle vessels and to manufacture equipment and technologies for maritime, port and other blue-economy activities.

The Alliance will bring together public and private stakeholders with relevant activities in the waterborne sector and the wider blue economy, including maritime manufacturers, upstream suppliers, downstream users, EU countries and their regions, investors, social partners, academia, and civil society group. It will map supply and demand, identify barriers in selected markets and develop business cases for scaling up the production and deployment of European vessels and technologies. It should also help build a pipeline of strategic projects and align public and private investment priorities.

Stakeholders meeting the eligibility criteria may apply to join the Alliance. Members will participate in a general assembly, while a steering board will coordinate the work and thematic working groups will address specific areas. The call will remain continuously open, with a first cut-off date of 16 October 2026.

Further information and the application form are available on the European Commission’s Alliance webpage.
