COMMISSIONER VĂLEAN PRESENTS COMMISSION WORK PROGRAMME 2023 TO EP

On 29 November Transport Commissioner Adina Vălean had an exchange of views with the TRAN Committee regarding the Commission work programme 2023 and other outstanding transport-related files. In her introduction Commissioner Vălean mentioned the extraordinary effort taken by the EU to support the export of 34 million tonnes of agricultural goods from Ukraine with the Solidarity Lanes, the TEN-T revision which includes the proposal to extend four European Transport Corridors to Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova and the necessity to make mobility more sustainable smarter and innovative. The Commissioner informed MEPs about the upcoming Greening Freight Package, which includes the revision of the Weights and Dimensions Directive, revision of the Combined Transport Directive and a new proposal entitled international freight and passenger transport – increasing the share of rail traffic.  Several MEPs expressed concern with regards to the necessary resources to meet the ambitious priorities.  Others expressed doubt on the whether the European Parliament would have sufficient time in the legislative cycle as the proposals would only be issued in Q1/Q2 2023.
