UPCOMING REPORT ON SSTPAS

Earlier this week, the European Commission announced that a new report on the deployment of Safe and Secure Truck Parking Areas (SSTPAs) is expected in the first half of 2025. The report will include recommendations to strengthen and support the development of these facilities, with a focus on forecasting future needs.

In response to a written question by MEP Elena Kountoura (The Left, Greece), who called for increased funding to accelerate construction across the EU and improve drivers' working conditions, Transport Commissioner Apóstolos Tzitzikóstas highlighted that 138 parking areas have been co-funded through the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), creating 16,113 parking spaces. He also confirmed that the findings of the ongoing Commission study on SSTPAs - designed to better understand the current demand and supply - will be presented in a report to the European Parliament and the Council in the first half of 2025. This report will include proposals to enhance and support the development of secure parking infrastructure.

CLECAT welcomes this forthcoming report as a crucial step in addressing the urgent need for high-quality, secure parking facilities across the EU. Adequate parking infrastructure is essential for ensuring driver safety, particularly as cargo theft continues to rise across the region.
