CLECAT SUBMITS POSITION ON MILITARY MOBILITY AHEAD OF UPCOMING PACKAGE

This week, CLECAT submitted its position paper in response to the European Commission’s call for evidence on military mobility, underscoring the critical role of the logistics sector in supporting both civilian and military transport needs. The paper highlights the importance of seamless cross-border movement for defence purposes, while also addressing the operational challenges faced by freight forwarders. CLECAT’s submission emphasises the need for clear, harmonised rules that ensure military mobility does not disrupt commercial logistics flows, particularly in times of crisis.

The Commission is expected to publish its Military Mobility Package on 19 November, a key step in strengthening the EU’s ability to respond to security threats through improved transport infrastructure and regulatory frameworks. CLECAT’s position calls for greater coordination between military and civilian authorities, as well as investment in dual-use infrastructure that can serve both defence and commercial logistics. The paper also stresses the importance of maintaining the free flow of goods and avoiding unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles that could impede the efficiency of supply chains.

As the EU moves forward with its Military Mobility Package, CLECAT will continue to engage with policymakers to ensure that the interests of the freight forwarding sector are represented. The goal is to achieve a balanced approach that enhances Europe’s defence capabilities while safeguarding the smooth operation of the logistics industry. The upcoming package presents an opportunity to align military and commercial transport needs, fostering resilience and efficiency across the EU’s supply chains.
