CLECAT PANEL ON HIGH-CAPACITY TRANSPORT AT TRANSPORT & LOGISTICS MUNICH

CLECAT invites its members and others to the panel roundtable event on high-capacity transport taking place on the 9th May at Transport & Logistics Munich.

Ben Kraaijenhagen will in the opening presentation present the ZEFES project which addresses the decarbonisation of long-distance and high-capacity freight transport by demonstrating real-world applications with battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) across Europe.

In the panel debate Bram Ewals, CEO of Ewals will be asked to talk about the experiences with the concept of the Super Eco Combi, also known as the Duo trailer. It is a 32 meters long trailer combination, which is yet another step towards more sustainable road logistics.  In 2017, Ewals Cargo Care introduced the vehicle. The panel will hear examples of initiatives that have contributed to increased efficiency, e.g. hinterland flow and how the Duo should be integrated in the market. Increasing truck size and weight has been shown to be a relatively cost-effective carbon mitigation measure and one that can be implemented relatively quickly. This will be demonstrated with real examples by VOLVO.

The debate will take place against the background of the upcoming review of the Weight and Dimensions Directive, which should allow for more flexibilities and keep the door for more innovation and smart technologies open.  The session will also debate the possible transition of conventional diesel-powered EMS vehicles to zero emission technologies, with the challenges and opportunities for innovation and the need to accelerate the deployment of adequate infrastructure.

Speakers include Dirk-Jan De Bruijn, Innovation and Strategy for Mobility at the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure, Bram Ewals, CEO of Ewals, Ben Kraaijenhagen, Technical Coordinator at VUB's ZEFES project, and Lena Larsson, Fellow Product Architect at Volvo Trucks. Nicolette van der Jagt, Director General at CLECAT, will moderate the event.
