SLOVENIA PRESENTS ITS TRANSPORT PRIORITIES

On 1 July, Slovenia will kick-off its six-month Presidency of the Council of the EU. The programme of the Slovenian Presidency puts a sustainable, digital and resilient Europe at the core of its activities. In the coming months, the Slovenian Presidency will lead crucial files through the institutional negotiations and will be closely involved in the legislative files that are part of the ‘Fit for 55’ Package.

CLECAT WELCOMES NAIADES III ACTION PLAN

The European Commission presented on 24 June the NAIADES III Action Plan, a 35-point programme to boost the role of inland waterway transport in our mobility and logistics systems, in line with the European Green Deal and the Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy.

CLECAT DEBATES FUTURE OF MULTIMODAL TRANSPORT

On 23 June, CLECAT’s Rail Freight Institute met to discuss CLECAT’s initiatives in response to a number of ongoing rail-freight policy developments, including the need for an ambitious new proposal from the European Commission on Combined Transport.

On 30 June, the European Commission’s DG MOVE and the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are holding a joint virtual event at 15.00h CET to discuss how they are working together for a safe and sustainable recovery of the aviation industry.

EC PROPOSES JOINT CYBER UNIT

On 23 June, the European Commission laid out its intentions for the creation of a Joint Cyber Unit to tackle the rising number of serious cyber incidents impacting public services, as well as the life of businesses and citizens across the European Union.

EU PROPOSAL FOR WCO MODERNISATION

On 24 June, at the World Customs Organization’s (WCO) Council session, the EU presented for the first time its initiative for broad reform of the organization. The initiative aims to help strengthen the WCO's position as a key multilateral institution and help it to address developments in today's trade environment more effectively.

NEW INSTRUMENT FOR MODERN AND RELIABLE CUSTOMS CONTROL EQUIPMENT

On 24 June, the EU Council and the European Parliament signed the regulation establishing the instrument for financial support of about €1 billion for customs control equipment. The new instrument aims to ensure that customs authorities at the EU’s external borders are properly equipped so that the EU Customs Union can function smoothly.

RESOLUTION OF CROSS-BORDER TAX DISPUTES FOR SMEs

The European Commission has launched a public consultation on a possible EU cooperative compliance programme, which will allow the tax administrations of EU Member States to resolve together, in a preventive manner, cross-border tax issues faced by small and medium enterprises operating within the EU.

NEW E-LEARNING MODULE FOR TRADERS

The European Commission’s DG TAXUD has launched a new e-learning module to assist traders to start taking full advantage of the Uniform User Management and Digital Signatures System (UUM&DS).

GLEC FRAMEWORK 5th ANNIVERSARY

The Global Logistics Emissions Council (GLEC) celebrated this week the fifth anniversary of the GLEC Framework. Launched in 2016, it is the only globally recognised methodology to calculate greenhouse gases emissions consistently across the multi-modal logistics supply chain.
