CLECAT JOINS FIATA WG SEA IN LONDON
On 28 and 29 November, CLECAT attended the FIATA Working Group Sea meeting hosted by BIFA and the TT Club in London. Delegates had the opportunity to discuss the latest developments regarding maritime logistics at global level and potential initiatives to ensure a fair and level playing field for its resilience. Participants acknowledged that regulatory developments taking place in the United States (OSRA of 2022 and subsequent FMC’s Final rules) should serve as an example for other regions to promote fair competition and business relations among all actors of the maritime supply chain. Members also received an update on the implementation of ICS2 Release 3 in maritime transport and its consequences for third-country operators.
Delegates received a presentation from James Hookham, Director of the Global Shippers Forum, on the ongoing work at IMO for global shipping decarbonisation measures. It was agreed that such measures would be essential to be imposed at global level to avoid any carbon leakage strategies, but they should also take the impact of users of shipping services into account.
The next day, delegates visited the London Gateway Port and its brand-new terminal facilities, currently with an annual capacity of 3.5 million TEU. The port which also runs multiple rail services has plans to expand with the construction of up to four more berths and new warehousing facilities close to the terminal.
