CLECAT AT THE 70TH TCG PLENARY TO DISCUSS TRADE ISSUES
On 13 June, CLECAT participated in the 70th Plenary of the Trade Contact Group (TCG), an important forum where the European Commission and the business community come together to exchange views on key customs and trade issues. The meeting was called to address pressing topics linked to shifting global trade dynamics and regulatory developments.
The agenda covered a wide range of subjects, including trade diversion in the context of rising global tensions, the ongoing EU–India Free Trade Agreement negotiations, and updates on the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). The discussions reflected growing political and business interest in ensuring that European trade remains secure, competitive and aligned with broader sustainability goals.
Participants shared views on the challenges and opportunities these developments present for European businesses. The Commission outlined its plans to strengthen cooperation with industry, calling for more input from trade representatives to ensure that future measures are both effective and workable in practice.
CLECAT took the opportunity to highlight the concerns of the logistics sector, stressing the need for more practical solutions that safeguard trade flows while meeting regulatory requirements. The meeting also set the stage for further discussions on EU–UK customs relations, with this topic to feature at the next plenary session scheduled for 16 July.
CLECAT remains committed to representing the interests of freight forwarders, customs agents and logistics service providers as these important policy discussions continue with the European Commission.
