CLECAT AIR AND SECURITY INSTITUTES MEET

Last week, CLECAT’s Air Freight Logistics and Supply Chain Security Institutes met to discuss recent EU developments in aviation legislation, logistics security, digitalisation, and land transport. Members of the Air Freight Logistics Institute were briefed on CLECAT’s recent exchanges with the European Commission regarding the ongoing fitness check of EU airport legislation, including the EU Slots Regulation and the Groundhandling Directive. Discussions highlighted the need to adapt these frameworks to the operational realities of air cargo, with a particular focus on improving service quality in groundhandling. The Institute also welcomed a presentation by Marie Seco-Köppen, Executive Director of Cargo iQ, on efforts to promote quality and performance standards across air cargo stakeholders. Members reaffirmed the importance of accelerating digitalisation in air freight to boost efficiency, transparency, and coordination.

The Supply Chain Security Institute reviewed the findings of the EU study on Safe and Secure Truck Parking Areas (SSTPAs) and received a presentation from ESPORG on its Wellbeing Pledge which CLECAT is supporting. Members underlined the importance of improving driver wellbeing as part of the solution to Europe’s professional driver shortage. They also stressed the need for dedicated EU funding under the next Multiannual Financial Framework and the Connecting Europe Facility to support the expansion of SSTPAs. In addition, members addressed growing concerns around cybersecurity, echoing warnings from the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) about persistent vulnerabilities in the transport sector.
