AIR CARGO DEMAND GROWS BY 8.2% IN NOVEMBER 2024
On 9 January, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) released its latest data on global air freight markets, highlighting a strong growth in demand.
Compared to November 2023, total demand, measured in cargo tonne-kilometres (CTKs), increased by 8.2% (9.5% for international operations). This marks the sixteenth consecutive month of growth. Capacity, measured in available cargo tonne-kilometres (ACTKs), increased by 4.6% compared to November 2023 (6.5% for international operations). European carriers experienced a 5.5% year-on-year growth in air cargo demand in November, with capacity increasing 4.3% year-on-year.
Mr Willie Walsh, IATA's Director General, indicated that the air cargo sector strong performance was likely to continue in 2025. However, he noted that downside risks such as inflation, geopolitical uncertainties and trade tensions had to be carefully watched.
