2021 CLEAN CARGO GLOBAL OCEAN CONTAINER GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSION INTENSITIES

Smart Freight Centre has released the 2021 Clean Cargo Global Ocean Container Greenhouse Gas Emission intensities report. This publication supports transparent tracking of the greenhouse gas emissions associated with ocean containerized cargo transportation.

Clean Cargo collects operational and technical data from ocean container carriers and calculates carrier greenhouse gas emission intensities to support members in accurate emissions foot printing and to guide members in making educated ocean freight procurement decisions. The information in this year’s public report is based on data from 18 ocean container carriers, reporting on over 3,700 vessels.

SFC works with Clean Cargo members (including containerized ocean freight shippers, freight forwarders, and carriers)  to generate carrier specific greenhouse gas emission performance information according to the member-developed and maintained Clean Cargo methods. There is no other program, initiative, or service – voluntary or regulatory – that generates containership emissions performance information at the level of aggregation, level of quality, and with the foundation in primary carrier data as that generated by Clean Cargo.
