UIRR CT EXHIBITION HIGHLIGHTS SECTOR PRIORITIES
On 18 November, CLECAT participated in the opening of the ‘’Combined Transport Delivers!’’ exhibition at the European Parliament, organised by the International Union of Combined Road-Rail Transport (UIRR). The event brought together transport and logistics associations and European policymakers to discuss the future of combined transport (CT) and the importance of collaboration to drive progress within the sector.
MEP Vivien Costanzo shadow rapporteur for the revision of the Combined Transport Directive, highlighted CT’s critical role in fostering sustainability and economic resilience. She also called for enhanced cross-border cooperation through a harmonised European approach. Fotini Ioannidou, Director of Waterborne Transport at DG MOVE, underlined the need to reduce carbon emissions to combat climate change, emphasising CT’s role in achieving this goal. She advocated for a Europeanisation of the CT revision and presented eFTI Regulation as a tool to support the successful revision of the directive.
CLECAT contributed to the discussions by emphasising the need for a revised CT Directive with a clear, concise, and practical definition, along with strong harmonisation across Member States, to enhance sector competitiveness and simplify freight forwarders' daily operations.
