TURKISH LOGITICS OPERATORS DISTRIBUTE HUMANITARIAN AID IN AREAS AFFECTED BY THE EARTHQUAKES

In the aftermath of the earthquakes in southeast Turkey, CLECAT’s associate member UTIKAD, representing freight forwarders and logistics companies in Turkey, started immediate coordination activities for the distribution of humanitarian aid, working around the clock to get domestic and international aid to the affected areas. As such UTIKAD established the Disaster Coordination Board to overcome the logistical challenges of delivering aid. UTIKAD’s members provided their logistical expertise to facilitate the delivery of supplies, large equipment, and rescue tools. At the same time, UTIKAD got in contact with government agencies such as the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority, regional and local governments and NGOs, to better coordinate the relief effort. Last week, UTIKAD supported the block train to transport aid items like container homes, mobile kitchens and heaters.
