SMART FREIGHT CENTRE PUBLISHES GLEC FRAMEWORK 3.1
In October 2024, Smart Freight Centre unveiled the updated version of the Global Logistics Emissions Council (GLEC) Framework, an updated method to calculate the carbon footprint of the global logistics supply chain, in full alignment with the new ISO 14083 standard.
Launched in 2016, this industry guideline was the first globally recognised methodology to calculate logistics GHG emissions and offer multinationals and their suppliers a harmonised, efficient and transparent way to calculate and report logistics emissions. The GLEC Framework was a core element used to develop the content for the new ISO 14083 standard on the quantification and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions of transport operations, published in March 2023. CLECAT has been involved in the work of GLEC since the very beginning and contributed financially to the developments of the ISO standard.
The version 3.1 of the GLEC Framework updates several useful indicators (fuel emission factors, biogenic GHG emission for biofuels, revised emission intensity tables…) to calculate and report GHG emission from freight transport, incorporating the latest research and data, ensuring that the GLEC Framework remains the gold standard for logistics emissions accounting. More information on all the changes between versions 3.0 and 3.1 is available via this link.
