PUBLIC CONSULTATION OPEN ON THE REVISION OF AVIATION STATE AID GUIDELINES

On 11 December, the European Commission launched a public consultation to gather stakeholders feedback on the proposed revision of the 2014 Guidelines on State aid to airports and airlines.

Initially set to expire in April 2024, the current rules were extended by three years due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The consultation seeks views on the need to extend operating and investment aid beyond 2027, questioning also for the need on incentives to supporting the sector’s ecological transition.

In the context of air freight transport, the Commission invites input from stakeholders on whether the revised guidelines should include specific provisions for airports and airlines specialised in freight, beyond the general requirements currently applicable to both passenger and freight transport.

The consultation is open until 5 March 2025.
