NEW RAIL OPERATORS REPLACE FRET SNFC FROM 2025
Starting on 1 January 2025, two new companies, Hexafret and Technis, will take over the operations and maintenance of SNCF Fret, the national rail freight service of France. This transformation, confirmed by Transport Minister François Durovray, follows a restructuring plan in response to a European Commission investigation into €5.3 billion in state aid granted to Fret SNCF between 2007 and 2019.
Under this plan, Fret SNCF will transfer 23 freight flows to other operators, while its remaining operations will transition to Hexafret, a rail freight company, and Technis, a locomotive maintenance provider. Both companies will operate under Rail Logistics Europe, an SNCF subsidiary, and together are expected to generate €700 million in revenue by 2025, a target comparable to Fret SNCF’s 2023 earnings.
