On 18 December, following a meeting of the EC Committee on Road Transport, Member States reached a consensus to allow a 2-month “educational learning period” the retrofit obligation provision for vehicle equipped with an analogue or digital non-smart tachograph.

The obligation to retrofit non-smart tachographs with smart tachographs version 2 applies since 1^st January 2025. Considering the delays in workshops to retrofit tachographs and minimise disruption to cross-border transport, Member States agreed to not impose sanctions on non-compliant trucks until 28 February 2025. Roadside authorities will instead focus its enforcement on awareness-raising activities.
