EU STANDARDS FOR SAFE AND SECURE TRUCK PARKING AREAS ADOPTED

On 7 April, the European Commission adopted new EU standards and procedures to support the development of a network of safe and secure truck parking areas (SSTPAs) throughout the EU. The standard, which is based on four levels of security, a common level of service and certification procedures builds on the work of the 2019 Commission study on SSTPAs.

CLECAT highly appreciates the European Commission’s work on Safe and Secure Truck Parking Areas and welcomes the adoption of the Delegated Regulation on SSTPAs, representing the result of intense collaboration between the European Commission’s DG MOVE and the Expert Group on SSTPAs, in which CLECAT has taking a driving role.

CLECAT fully supports the EU SSTPA Standard which is needed to address the urgent demand for truck parking areas in the EU, by offering sufficient parking possibilities for drivers, which are of high quality and provide the desired amount of security.  A harmonised EU Standard will be key to successfully address the existing shortcomings.

The Commission will notify the European Parliament and the Council of the delegated act’s adoption, which will then enter into force if neither raises an objection within two months of notification.
