EU ENDS EXPORT AUTHORISATION FOR COVID-19 VACCINES

As of 1 January 2022, vaccine producers will no longer have to request an authorisation for the export of vaccines outside the EU, as the EU will not extend the COVID-19 vaccines export transparency and authorisation mechanism, set to expire on 31 December 2021. Transparency of exports will continue to be ensured through a new monitoring mechanism.

The new monitoring mechanism will ensure a continued and timely collection of data on the exports of COVID-19 vaccine doses and the active substances to produce such vaccines at company level. Customs authorities of EU Member States will be collecting this data and the Commission will be making it public at an aggregate level.

This decision is part of broader EU efforts to facilitate the widest and fastest production and equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines that the world urgently needs.
