EU DAG MEETS TO DISCUSS EU-UK TCA IMPLEMENTATION

On 10 May, CLECAT attended the third meeting of the EU Domestic Advisory Group (DAG) under the EU-UK Trade and Facilitation Agreement (TCA), which advises the EU Commission on the TCA implementation. The EU DAG discussed the progress made in implementing the TCA and reflected on possible future cooperation with the Commission, the TCA Civil Society Forum and the EU DAG counterpart in the UK.

Members of the group received an update from the Commission on the state of play of the implementation of the TCA, including the first meetings of the different trade specialised committees. There was constructive dialogue on the most effective way for the DAG to feed its expertise into the existing governance structures under the Agreement. In that regard, DAG members also reflected on the progress of the Group’s input to the Commission, outlining the most pressing issues of concerns regarding the implementation of the TCA and proposals for improved trade facilitation.

The DAG members held an exchange of views with Mr Denis Redonnet, Chief Trade Enforcement Officer, on the work of the Commission in ensuring that the commitments of the parties under the TCA are properly enforced, and that civil society and businesses have direct and effective channels to report issues concerning breaches. The meeting also reflected on cooperation with the newly formed EU DAG counterpart in the UK and a future joint statement focusing on maintaining the level playing field between the EU and the UK, and high level of environmental protection.
