CLECAT WELCOMES NEW EUROPEAN COMMISSION STARTING WORK ON 1 DECEMBER 2024

On 1 December 2024, the new European Commission, led by President Ursula von der Leyen, will officially begin its term following its appointment by the European Council and approval by the European Parliament earlier this week. CLECAT extends its best wishes to the Commission College as they take on their responsibilities in a period marked by significant challenges and opportunities for Europe.

The incoming Commission will oversee critical areas of policy development, many of which are directly relevant to the freight forwarding and logistics sector. President von der Leyen's priorities, as outlined in her mission letters, emphasize competitiveness, sustainability, and resilience—key themes that align closely with the needs of European logistics.

CLECAT hopes that the new Commission will support policies that enhance cross-border trade and transport, reduce regulatory burdens, promote further digitalisation and ensure a level playing field across all modes of transport. This includes advancing the completion of the European Transport Network (TEN-T) and addressing the challenges faced by freight forwarders in managing complex regulatory and operational environments.

CLECAT looks forward to engaging with the Commission, including Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism Apostolos Tzitzikostas. Collaboration will be key to ensuring that European logistics remains a vital enabler of trade and economic growth, contributing to Europe’s broader ambitions for sustainability, innovation, and resilience.
