CLECAT ROAD LOGISTICS INSTITUTE MEETS
The CLECAT Road Logistics Institute convened on 3 March to discuss key developments impacting road transport and logistics at both national and EU levels. Members held an exchange with Mr Sean Sayer from the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) on the need for collaboration within the road freight industry to improve drivers’ working conditions.
Members also discussed the implementation of ICS2 Release 3 for road transport, which will start as of 1st April. They highlighted the importance of continued preparations and effective communication with road hauliers affected by these changes. Particular attention was given to the EU Eastern borders where limited capacity can lead to bottlenecks if hauliers fail to comply with ICS2 requirements.
Members received an update on the latest Commission initiatives affecting road freight transport, notably the EU Action Plan for the Automotive sector and the Clean Corporate Fleets initiative. In line with our recent position papers, we welcome the commitment from the Commission to propose the extension of the ZEV toll exemption in the Eurovignette Directive beyond end 2025, as it will give a clear price signal for the industry to switch to zero-emission vehicles. CLECAT is also looking forward to bringing its expertise to the future high-level dialogue on Clean Corporate Fleets regarding light- and heavy-duty vehicles.
Finally, members took note of the most recent initiatives related to the decarbonisation of heavy-duty vehicles, particularly the ongoing work of the European Clean Trucking Alliance (ECTA), the progress of the ZEFES project and the EC market readiness study on the uptake of alternative fuel HDV until 2030. CLECAT actively participates in these initiatives, which are crucial to provide the transport sector with concrete plans and ideas to increase the uptake of low and zero-emission trucks across Europe.
