CLECAT MEETS DG TAXUD ON CBAM

Earlier this week CLECAT met with a delegation from DG TAXUD to discuss a wide range of questions related to the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). CLECAT members are representing many SME’s in Europe who will need to be properly informed and educated on the rules, which are new for them and for which they may incur liabilities in case of indirect representation.

CLECAT considers the time frame foreseen for the preparation of the reporting obligation too short for the indirect customs representatives representing non-EU established companies. CLECAT has written to the Commission recently to ask for a later start of the transition period as the time between the adoption of the CBAM implementing regulation this Summer and the start of the transition period in October is very short and will represent challenges in terms of implementation.
