CLECAT AIR INSTITUTE DISCUSSES FIT-FOR-55 PACKAGE AND DIGITALISATION

On 26 November, the Air Freight Institute of CLECAT met virtually to discuss legislative and non-legislative developments in the areas of sustainability, digitalisation, aviation security, as well as the impact of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Members exchanged views on the position to be taken by CLECAT in the upcoming revisions of EU aviation legislation. A discussion was also held on the aviation-related files in the Fit-for-55 Package, in view of finalising CLECAT’s position. CLECAT particularly welcomes the ReFuel EU initiative, which is fully in line with the ambitions of the European freight forwarding industry towards achieving a more sustainable aviation sector. However, CLECAT puts particular emphasis on the importance of a fail-proof system, including the appropriate control-mechanisms, to ensure that the Regulation and its aims are not circumvented, e.g. by fuel-tankering outside the EU.

Moreover, members discussed the progress in implementing e-freight in aviation, and received a presentation on IATA’s ONE Record, a standard for data sharing which creates a single record view of the shipment. ONE Records defines a common data model for the data that is shared via standardised and secured web API.

Finally, CLECAT members and the Secretariat thanked Mr Lothar Moehle, the outgoing Chair of the Air Freight Institute, for his excellent guidance and contribution in the air freight sector over the past years and wished him all the best for his future position. Mr Florent Noblet (TLF), previously the Vice-Chair of the Air Freight Institute, was confirmed by members as the successor of Mr Moehle.
