AIR CARGO DEMAND CONTINUES TO GROW IN NOVEMBER

On 8 January, International Air Transport Association (IATA) published its air cargo market data for November, pointing to continued resilience in the sector towards the end of the year.

Compared to November 2024, total demand, measured in cargo tonne-kilometres (CTKs), increased by 5.5%, while capacity, measured in available cargo tonne-kilometres (ACTKs), rose by 4.7%. International operations recorded stronger growth, with demand up by 6.9% and capacity by 6.5%.

European carriers saw demand increase by 5.8% year-on-year, alongside a 4.1% rise in capacity. Europe–Asia traffic continued to perform strongly, with demand growing by 11.7%, marking the 33rd consecutive month of growth on this route. Demand on North America–Europe routes also increased by 5%. By contrast, intra-EU air cargo demand declined by 4.9%, representing the fourth consecutive month of contraction.

Willie Walsh, IATA’s Director General, noted that air cargo remained resilient in the fourth quarter, with strategic trade re-routing shaping performance across key markets. He noted that the strong close to 2025 provides a positive outlook for the air cargo sector as it enters the new year.
