ESPORG INAUGURATES A NEW SSTPA IN BELGIUM

On 6 February, CLECAT joined the inauguration of a revamped Safe and Secure Truck Parking in Jabbeke (Belgium). It was followed by an ESPORG workshop to discuss notably of the upcoming SSTPA study.

The truck parking was renovated and upgraded to a “Gold” SSTPA standard, as is equipped with Mac Address Scanners, which allow for an on-the-spot and real-time check of the presence of migrants in a truck’s cargo. The objective is to allow intrusion-free trucks to receive priority treatment in ports and terminals, as a Green-Lane concept. The idea is to eventually have these Mac Address Scanners in other parking areas in Belgium, at ports, and across Europe, and for European officials to take the proof of concept of the Green Lane Stamp and the Green Lane and make it a practical reality.

The workshop organised by ESPORG allowed participants to exchange on the policy environment and funding opportunities on the deployment of SSTPA across Europe with representatives of DG MOVE and CINEA. The main objectives of the European Commission study launched in January concerning safe and secure truck parking were presented by Rob de Leeuw van Weenen from Panteia, member of the consortium to which was allocated the execution of the study and supported by CLECAT. The 10-month study will provide a state of play of SSTPAs in the EU, funding opportunities (through CEF and others) and it will focus on the location, level of security, and number of parking spaces necessary. On top of that, the study will also focus on SSTPAs facilities nearby EU external borders, especially in the aftermath of Russia’s aggression war to Ukraine.
