DG MOVE OPENS PUBLIC CONSULTATION GREENING CORPORATE FLEETS

The European Commission has opened a broad public consultation on the Greening of corporate fleets. In the 2020 Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy, the European Commission declared its intention to propose actions to boost the uptake of zero-emission vehicles in corporate fleets.

The Commission notes that the corporate fleet markets for light and heavy-duty vehicles have a high yearly mileage and rapid vehicle turnover. They may therefore be well-suited to accelerating the move towards zero-emission mobility. Possible actions to accelerate this uptake could complement the implementation of existing rules on road transport emissions.

The consultation takes the significant differences between various types of corporate fleets such as rental fleets, company cars, taxi companies, large logistics truck fleets, etc. into account. Corporate buyers often follow different criteria compared to private buyers when acquiring a vehicle, have different operational requirements and specific needs for charging infrastructure compared to private buyers. These aspects are reflected in the consultation, for the different types of vehicles and fleets involved.

CLECAT will prepare a response to the public consultation in the coming weeks.

The consultation is open until 30 April 2024.
