ALIGNING GLOBAL ACTION WITH EU CLIMATE AMBITION: CLECAT’S CALL FOR A STRONG IMO DECARBONISATION FRAMEWORK
As the European association representing freight forwarders and logistics service providers, CLECAT supports the urgent need to decarbonise maritime transport and calls for a strong, effective, and globally coordinated response from the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).
On 2 April, US President Donald Trump announced a new tariff regime targeting countries with which the US runs large trade deficits. Among the key measures is a 20% tariff on EU goods, alongside higher duties on imports from countries including China, Vietnam, Switzerland, Thailand and Japan.
On 2 April, the European Commission presented ProtectEU, a new European internal security strategy aimed at strengthening the EU’s resilience against security threats.
On 3 April, the European Parliament adopted in Plenary session the Commission proposal postponing the dates of application of certain corporate sustainability reporting and due diligence requirements, as well as the transposition deadline of the due diligence provisions.
1st of April marked a significant milestone on the deployment of Import Control System 2, with the end of the deployment window for maritime house-level filers, which are mandated to connect to ICS2 and submit entry summary declarations (ENS), filings for shipments they handle.
EIB FUNDS TO ENHANCE CROSS-BORDER CONNECTIVITY IN UKRAINE
On 1 April, the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Ukrainian government signed an agreement to provide €50 million in financing to modernise key rail border crossings with Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, and Romania.
On 3 April, the second EU-Moldova Transport Dialogue took place in Chisinau, focusing on strengthening cooperation across all transport modes and advancing future initiatives.
EC PUBLISHES TARGETED AMENDMENT TO CO2 STANDARDS FOR CARS AND VANS
On 1st April, the Commission proposed a targeted amendment to the Regulation setting CO2 emission performance standards for new cars and vans. The proposal introduces a flexibility measure for manufacturers to comply with the 2025 CO2 targets.
On 31 March, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) released its latest data on global air freight markets, reporting a slight decline in demand growth.
