CLECAT is pleased to announce that, as of 1 January 2025, three new members have joined our organisation: the Malta Chamber of Commerce, the Romanian Freight Forwarders Association (USER), and the Romanian Association of Customs Brokers (Roubroker).
CLECAT PARTICIPATES IN PANEL ON THE DUAL-USE OF TEN-T
On 14 January 2025, CLECAT took part in the insightful discussion on “Dual-Use of Trans-European Transport Network: Are We Prepared for Crisis Situations?” hosted at the European Economic and Social Committee. This high-level panel brought together key stakeholders to address the critical role of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) in ensuring resilience and preparedness for both civilian and military needs during times of crisis.
EC PUBLISHES DRAFT LIST OF NON-EU TRANSHIPMENT PORTS FOR FUEL EU MARITIME
This week, the European Commission published the draft implementing Regulation identifying neighbouring container transhipment ports under the FuelEU Maritime Regulation. The list closely mirrors the existing implementing Regulation under the ETS Directive, excluding the ports of Tanger Med (Morocco) and East Port Said (Egypt) from the definition of ‘port of call’.
ACCELERATING THE ENERGY TRANSITION: THE ROLE OF INDUSTRIAL PORT CLUSTERS
On Tuesday, 14 January, CLECAT joined a seminar organised by the Port of Rotterdam and Port of Antwerp-Bruges at the Solvay Library in Brussels, focusing on the critical role industrial port clusters play in accelerating the energy transition and strengthening the competitive position of European industries.
At the end of December, the European Parliament published the TRAN draft report on the Commission proposal revising the Directive on harmonised River Information Services (RIS). The Rapporteur MEP Tom Berendsen (EPP, Netherlands) supports the Commission’s ambition to further digitalise inland waterway services and reduce administrative burden for IWT users and authorities.
CLECAT MEMBERS INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN ALICE SURVEY ON RAIL AND INTERMODAL TRANSPORT CHALLENGES
On 8 January, the Alliance for Logistics Innovation through Collaboration in Europe (ALICE) launched a survey to gain deeper insights into the challenges facing rail and intermodal transport. As a member of ALICE, CLECAT encourages its members, particularly freight forwarders involved in rail and intermodal transport, to participate in this initiative.
The New Computerised Transit System (NCTS) is about to take a significant step forward with the introduction of its latest version, NCTS5, across all European Union (EU) Member States on 21 January 2025. This milestone represents an important evolution for customs transit procedures under the Common Transit Convention (CTC).
This week, the European Commission published the 4th edition of the European Aviation Environmental Report, providing a comprehensive review of the aviation sector’s environmental performance and progress since the 2022 edition. The report outlines critical recommendations to reduce aviation's impact on climate change, noise, and air quality, emphasising the importance of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), air traffic management optimisations, and more fuel-efficient technologies.
