LOGISTICS FOR EUROPE 2024: RETHINKING SUPPLY CHAINS

On 19 November, CLECAT and ESC will host the third Logistics for Europe 2024 event at the Representation of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia to the EU. Entitled ‘Rethinking Supply Chains,’ the conference will bring together shippers, freight forwarders, and other stakeholders in the supply chain, as well as European lawmakers, for a constructive dialogue on the challenges facing European industry.

COUNCIL APPROVES EU DEFORESTATION REGULATION DELAY

The Council of the European Union has agreed to postpone the application of the EU deforestation regulation (EUDR) by 12 months, a move designed to allow member states, operators, traders, and third countries more time to comply with its requirements.

CLECAT ROAD LOGISTICS INSTITUTE MEETS

The CLECAT Road Logistics Institute convened on 17 October to discuss key developments impacting road transport and logistics at both national and EU levels. Members had an exchange on the ongoing revision of the Combined Transport Directive, acknowledging that the latest draft compromise proposal showed improvements in several areas.

DREWRY EXPECTS HIGH FREIGHT RATES IN 2025

The Loadstar reported this week on shipping analyst Drewry’s predictions for the shipping market next year. Despite the increase in fleet capacity with newbuilds entering service, Drewry anticipates further market disruptions that could offset any potential decrease in freight rates.

COM ADOPTS RULES ON CYBERSECURITY OF CRITICAL ENTITIES AND NETWORKS

On 17 October, the European Commission adopted the first implementing rules on cybersecurity of critical entities and networks under the NIS2 Directive

UK AUTHORITIES INVESTIGATE AIR CARGO INCIDENT

Several press reports have indicated that the UK counter-terrorism police have opened an investigation into the possibility that Russian spies planted an incendiary device on a plane which has subsequently ignited at a warehouse in England. British investigators suspect the incendiary device may be linked to a broader campaign by Russian operatives across Europe.

CLECAT PARTICIPATES IN DTLF PLENARY

CLECAT participated in the first Plenary meeting of the new Digital Transport and Logistics Forum (DTLF), which took place on 18 October 2024 in Brussels.

EFTI4EU ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2024

CLECAT participated in the annual eFTI4EU Project conference, held on 17 July in Brussels. The event brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and experts for a full day of engaging discussions and insightful presentations on the future of freight transport. The conference provided a vibrant platform to explore the digital innovations transforming the logistics sector.

UKRAINE REFORMS STATE CUSTOMS SERVICE

On 17 October, President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a landmark law aimed at reforming Ukraine's State Customs Service. The new law, which will take effect on 1 November, comes after sustained pressure from Western partners and Ukrainian business associations, marking a crucial step towards the country’s ambitions of EU accession.
