The European Commission has appointed long-term staffer Magda Kopczynska as the next full-time director general of its transport department, replacing Henrik Hololei who left the position in March. Kopczynska, a Polish national, is a shipping specialist who previously worked under Hololei and has experience of dealing with the International Maritime Organization and efforts to maintain supply corridors for Ukrainian products. Over recent months, she has been in charge of the EU executive’s geographical indicators at the agriculture department, the system for attributing local origin to food and beverage products such as feta cheese and champagne.
