CLECAT SUSTAINABLE LOGISTICS INSTITUTE MEETS

Members of the CLECAT Sustainable Logistics Institute met yesterday to exchange views on the latest developments regarding sustainability policies affecting transport and logistics at national and EU level. Members discussed the legislative developments on the CountEmissions EU proposal, the development of corporate sustainability reporting standards and the CO2 standards for heavy-duty vehicles.

A first exchange took place on the legislative proceedings on the CountEmissions EU proposal. CLECAT continues its advocacy initiatives before the Commission, Parliament and Council to ensure it position is well-reflected in the future Regulation, which would enable transport operators to accurately calculate, monitor and compare their emissions giving transport users an estimate of the carbon footprint for their different transport and delivery options, facilitating behavioural change. Members also discussed how to disseminate knowledge and practices on the ISO 14083 standard and GHG measurement and reporting in general towards freight forwarding companies through guidelines and workshops.

Members then received an update on the implementation of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and welcomed the delay of the implementation of the second set of ESRS by two years to June 2026. This would allow companies to focus on the implementation of the first set of ESRS and give more time to develop sector-specific sustainability standards.

Finally, Members were informed on the deal that was reached between Parliament and Council over the revision of the CO2 standards for heavy-duty vehicles, as well as the ongoing public consultation on the greening of corporate fleets, of which CLECAT will submit a response in the coming weeks.
