CLECAT ROAD LOGISTICS INSTITUTE MEETS

The CLECAT Road Logistics Institute met on 14 June to exchange views on developments affecting road transport and logistics at national and EU level, including decarbonisation of road freight transport, the revision of the Weights and Dimensions Directive and the Driving License Directive.

CLECAT CUSTOMS INSTITUTE MEETS IN HELSINKI

On 15-16 June, members of CLECAT Customs and Indirect Taxation Institute (CITI) gathered in Helsinki for a meeting hosted by FIFFLA (Finnish Freight Forwarding and Logistics Association). The meeting focused on several key topics, including the recently published Customs Reform proposals, which will have a large impact on the freight forwarding and customs agents businesses.

GERMAN GOVERNMENT APPROVES NEW TOLL SCHEME

The German Federal Government has last week approved important changes to the Federal Highways Toll Act. According to the German government the goal of this legislative proposal is to implement the change to the Eurovignette Directive that entered into effect in March 2022.

UKRAINE JOINS EU’S CEF PROGRAM

On 6 June, Transport Commissioner Adina Vălean and Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov signed an agreement, officially associating Ukraine with the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) program.

FMC AMENDS DRAFT RULE TO REGULATE UNREASONABLE REFUSAL TO DEAL

The US Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) issued on 12 June a Supplemental Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (SNPRM) detailing how the FMC would implement the prohibition on ocean carriers unreasonably refusing available cargo space to shippers.

BIFA CALLS FOR INPUT ON VOLUNTARY STANDARD FOR CUSTOMS INTERMEDIARIES

On 6 June, BIFA (British International Freight Association) urged its corporate members to actively engage in a government consultation that explores the possibility of implementing a voluntary standard for customs intermediaries.

EC EXTENDS TRADE SUPPORT FOR UKRAINE

On 5 June, the EU has extended the Autonomous Trade Measures (ATMs), which include the suspension of import duties, quotas, and trade defense measures on Ukrainian exports, for another year. The decision reaffirms the EU's support for Ukraine and aims to alleviate the challenges faced by its producers and exporters due to Russia's unjustified military aggression.

EC PUBLISHED DRAFT DELEGATED ACT ON REPORTING STANDARDS

On 9 May, the European Commission published the draft Delegated Act setting out the first set of European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), in accordance with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).

EP AND COUNCIL REACH PROVISIONAL AGREEMENT ON INTELLIGENT TRANSPORT SYSTEMS

On 8 June, the European Parliament and Council reached a provisional agreement on revising the 2010 directive for intelligent transport systems (ITS) deployment.

IATA FORECASTS SURGE IN RENEWABLE FUEL PRODUCTION BY 2028

On 8 June, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced its projection that renewable fuel production capacity will reach a minimum of 69 billion litres (55 million tonnes) by 2028.
