COMMISSION LAUNCHES THE EUROPEAN PORTS ALLIANCE PUBLIC PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP TO FIGHT ORGANISED CRIME AND DRUG TRAFFICKING
On 24 January, CLECAT jointed the launch of the European Ports Alliance Public Private Partnership organised by the European Commission and hosted at the Port of Antwerp. The partnership aims to bring all relevant stakeholders together, to form solutions to protect ports from drug trafficking and criminal infiltration.

RED SEA CRISIS PUTS FURTHER PRESSURE ON FREIGHT RATES AND EQUIPMENT AVAILABILITY
Since the end of 2023, major carriers to decide to suspend voyages through the Suez Canal due to ongoing attacks led by Houthi rebels in the Red Sea. The increased transit times between Asia and Europe via the Cape of Good Hope have caused operational disruptions in Europe and the imposition of surcharges and rising freight rates dramatically increased the cost of international sea freight.
